Shopping List of Basics

This list attempts to pull together the most important products but, of course, a pantry would stock many more items. If we were stuck in a kitchen for a month with no access to a store, this is what we’d want to have on hand:

Pantry Items:
Dried legumes
Seeds and nuts and maybe some dried fruit such as prunes
Canned goods (tomatoes, beans, chickpeas)
Pre-made stock or cubes
Peanut butter (or a similar nut butter)

Fridge and Freezer Items:
Useful fridge items: pesto, eggs, butter, cheese (Parmesan, goat and cheddar), milk and yoghurt
Bottled sauces such as tomato, soy, and mustard
Capers, olives, and anchovies if you are so inclined
Long-life vegetables such as carrots, celery, and ginger
Long-life fruits such as apples and lemons
Useful freezer items including frozen vegetables (peas, corn and broccoli), berries, ice cream, bread, ground beef, and corn tortillas

Condiments and Other:
Olive oil
Salt and pepper
Spices such as ground cinnamon, paprika, cumin, turmeric
Dried herbs such as oregano, bay leaves and marjoram
Onions, potatoes and garlic
